LOTD: Selena Gomez inspired

I've really been kinda smitten with the video for Selena Gomez's "I Love You Like a Love Song"....not because I like the song....but because I'm in love with the purple eye makeup she rocks in the beginning of the video.

So, I thought I'd try my hand at it.

I used:
Concrete Mineral's Electric Eye Primer and NYX Jep in Milk 120 Palette Random Medium Purple (lid)
Sugarpill Poison Plum (crease) and Bulletproof (outer V)
Revlon Vintage Lace (highlight)
Concrete Mineral's White Rabbit (inner corners and inner third of lashline)
Milani Liquif-eye eyeliner, black
L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara

**
Selena has something fairly glittery and sparkly on the inner part of her lashline.  When I want sparkly on that part of my eye, I usually grab Sassy Mineral's Merlin's Ball.  I tried this with Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Transformation Potion.  What I got was a very opaque, metallic silver...which is good to know if I ever need that color...but not quite what I wanted.  Instead, I overlapped White Rabbit both wet and dry...it was sparkly-er than my original plan but not quite right either...and of course none of that cool sparkle/pink shift that this shadow has showed up on the camera :(

Note to self...pick up some glitter liners when I have money again.

My inspiration

Today is the very few remaining hours of my vacation.  I'm back to work in 3 hours and back to school by the end of the week.  It's been fun, but I think I'm ready to get back into regular routine again.

I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer so far...thanks for stopping by :)

May/June Favorites

Things have been pretty hectic lately.  I've started my clinicals at school so now I'm working full-time and then I work at school all weekend long.  It's tiring but it will be worth it in the end.  I haven't been wearing much makeup for school but that doesn't mean I haven't gone without! :)

Here's what I've been loving for the past month or so:

EPICALLY EPIC SOAP COMPANY'S LAVENDER OAT SOAP
I originally bought this for Addy when I made my big Epically Epic haul several months back, but she quickly realized that lavender is not a scent she enjoys.  I have to admit, it's not my favorite scent either (It's not one I'd pick for myself, but I don't hate it) but this soap lathers up so nicely and leaves me feeling clean, fresh, and not too dry.  Plus, it's really pretty...isn't it?

L'OREAL VOLUMINOUS MILLION LASHES MASCARA

Yay! Here's my craptastic pic from my review of this product :)  I won't say much about this since I just reviewed it but I will say that I love it and it makes my lashes look awesome!

WET N' WILD VANITY PALETTE
I know this is old news, but I just bought this palette last month.  I've been trying to boost up my collection of neutral colors.  I've been using this a lot and practicing my winged liner to go a long with it!  It's still not perfect, but I'm getting better every time :)
(Another Google pic...I didn't expect to love this as much as I do.  I would have totally taken my own pic if I had known)

MILANI LIP FLASH IN STARFLASH
My computer chose this moment to give me a hard time so I have no picture of this.  For anyone who doesn't know about this product...lip flash is a lip gloss/lip stick hybrid product that comes in a pencil.  Starflash is a pale, shimmery, baby pink color.  It looks ridiculous on me alone, but it adds a really cool iridescent sheen when worn over other lip colors.  Of course this doesn't really translate well to photography but trust me...in person it looks incredible!

BEAUTY SCHOOL HAIRCUTS
I went to get my hair cut recently at a "real" salon and I had a horrible experience.  It will probably show up as a rant post pretty soon :)  But an old acquaintance of mine is about to graduate from beauty school and offered to fix it.  She did such an awesome job...I think she has a fan for life!  And the cut only cost me ten bucks!
This is me showing off my new haircut.  Wet n' Wild Vanity Palette on my eyes (left side of palette) with winged liner (L'Oreal Lineur Intense).  Fyrinnae's Visual Kei on my lips with Milani Starflash over the top of it.

Review: L'oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara

Last term, I noticed something about my one of my nursing instructors.

Her lashes looked beyond fabulous.  Week after week, I wanted to ask her what mascara she was using.  This term, she's my math teacher and, on the first day, I got up the nerve to ask her what she's been using. :)

First, she told me that without mascara she has almost no eyelashes.  Then she told me that, ever since she started using it, she's had to keep it in her purse to show people because many people have asked about her lashes....and she pulled a tube of L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara out of her bag.  She then added that everyone she's told about this mascara has become a convert.

I've never really cared that much about my mascara.  I mean, I use it....but what kind hasn't really mattered all that much to me.  I usually buy a different brand each time I run out....wondering if this time I'll come across something amazing.  My sister swears by a mascara by Too Faced (I forget what it's called) but I can't spend that much money on a mascara--just can't bring myself to do it.  But I figured $7.99 was reasonable enough to give this stuff a shot.

I will say first off that I am not a fan of the packaging.  I realize that this is a drug store brand and that it is 'cheap' but this packaging feels really cheap!  I even placed the tube in Jeff's hand and he was shocked at how lightweight and flimsy it feels.

The wand is the plastic bristle type.  Not too big or too small.  Just seemed to be pretty much what I expected it to be.
I've noticed in other mascara reviews that bloggers will mention the smell.  Honestly, I've never noticed a smell with my mascaras before this one.  Maybe I'm just oblivious and not paying enough attention :)  This one does have a bit of a (medicinal?) odor to it but I only noticed it when I removed the wand from the tube and I don't notice any odor when I am wearing it.

So...am I a convert like everyone else my teacher has shown this stuff to?

I think I just might be.

Behold....my mostly bare eye.  Face is washed...eyeliner is mostly gone (at this point I usually take a makeup wipe to my eyes to get off the remaining stuff but I'm going no where today and was feeling rather lazy...my apologies)

Then I applied two coats of Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara to my top lashes and one coat to my bottom lashes.

I think they look pretty good!  I think they separate pretty nicely and I like the 'blackness' of the product and how my lashes stand out.  Now usually, I would put a little more work into applying my mascara...apply several coats, comb through them etc.  But for two quick coats(and no other makeup)...I think they look pretty spiffy!

I've been using this mascara for about two weeks now and I really like it a lot.  I think it makes my lashes look fuller, longer and darker.  I like the formula better than Falsies and Colossal which are the last two mascaras that I've tried.

This might even be HG territory for me which I haven't ever experienced with a mascara.

Have you guys tried this?  What did you think of it?
